Professional Background

Since graduating from McGill University (B.Sc. in Occupational Therapy) in 1993, I have been providing occupational therapy services to clients with a broad and diverse range of conditions. My clinical experience includes working with clients and evaluees with:

  • Orthopaedic and musculoskeletal injuries
  • Brain injuries
  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Amputations
  • Mental health diagnoses
  • Cancer survivorship
  • Other myriad chronic conditions (e.g., chronic pain, respiratory compromise, visual and hearing impairments, burns, etc.)

Since 2005, I have also been a board-certified life care planner through the International Commission on Health Care Certification.  Since inception of the certification in 2023, I have been an International Certified Cost of Care Professional Fellow with the College of Vocational Rehabilitation Professionals.  I also hold the Fellow designation with the International Academy of Life Care Planners, a recognition awarded to those whose expertise, experience, and contribution to the field of life care planning are exemplary.

Events giving rise to my involvement in creating life care plans have included:

  • Assaults and gunshot injuries
  • Slip and falls incidents
  • Construction and workplace liability
  • Product liability cases
  • Building maintenance liability

  • Falls from heights
  • Homeowner liability

Academic Roles and Responsibilities

With a PhD and postdoctoral training, I hold an adjunct professor position with the Faculty of Health Sciences, School of Rehabilitation Sciences, at the University of Ottawa. In this role, I supervise student research, teach courses, and deliver guest lectures. My current academic and research interests include:

  • Private practice in occupational therapy
  • Life care planning (in Canada)
  • Occupational therapist’s medical legal preparation and testimony

I have served as the lead author on multiple manuscripts and have collaborated with research teams on various publications. I actively support students in publishing research findings and I have presented at numerous conferences on related topics. Professional Service

I am an active member of several boards and committees, including:

  • International Academy of Life Care Planners (IALCP) (International Representative)
  • Canadian Chapter of International Association of Rehabilitation Professionals (Board Member)
  • Foundation for Life Care Planning and Rehabilitation Research (Member at Large, Research Committee)

I served as a member of the committee responsible for revising and publishing the fourth edition of the Standards of Practice for Life Care Planners. I was also a member of the working group evaluating the Consensus and Majority Statements in preparation for the 2025 IALCP Life Care Planning Summit.

Currently, I serve as the chair of LCP Connect, an initiative of the IALCP that aims to foster a collegial, professional, and educational network for international life care planners.

Additionally, I initiated and chair an Eastern Ontario peer network of life care planners dedicated to discussing practical matters, advancing educational initiatives, and fostering continued professional development within the practice of life care planning.
